Fluoride Varnish Programme

Fluoride Varnish Programme in Schools

Please note that since the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council made a decision to pause the school based fluoride varnish programme until further notice, following guidance from the Scottish Chief Dental Officer.

Since 1st September 2016 we have been participating in the School Fluoride Varnish Programme in the following schools:

Rosebrook Primary School, Rudyard Avenue, Roseworth, Stockton on Tees TS19 9LF

St John the Baptist Primary School, St John’s Way, Ragworth, Stockton on Tees TS19 0FB

If your child/children attend either of the above schools in Nursery to Year 6 classes, you will have been invited to register them on this scheme.

Other schools in the area are also participating, so ask at your child/children’s school or you should receive a letter inviting you to participate.

The children will receive the fluoride varnish applications every 6 months.  Results from studies have shown that decay can be reduced by the application of fluoride varnish twice a year.  This will be more frequent in high risk children.

Fluoride varnish applications are also provided in dental practices, but this programme is in addition to any treatments received at their own dental practice.

Further information about the scheme can be found on the leaflet below:

School FV Programme Info

Once your child has had the fluoride varnish applied, it is important to follow the aftercare instructions, which can be found below:

Fluoride Varnish AfterCare

Fluoride varnish can help protect your child’s teeth against tooth decay, but there are 5 important things that you can also do to ensure healthy teeth and gums, see below:
